Copper Smelting Plant

Copper smelting plant was founded in July, 1930. The first product – copper anode – was manufactured on August 3, 1934.

Copper smelter processes copper-bearing feedstock, i.e. blister copper, copper and other non-ferrous scrap by means of fire refining in reverberatory furnaces. Copper smelter produces copper anodes and copper pellets as semi-finished products for further processing in the tankhouse and copper sulfate plant respectively. Scrap from copper anodes and pellets production is sent to the subsidiary “Polymetals production” for processing.

In view of current reconstruction of copper refining facilities and forthcoming start-up of the new tankhouse it is planned to install casting equipment of German company SMS-MEER at the anode furnace of copper smelting plant in the III quarter of 2011 that will make possible simultaneous production of two types of anodes: for the new and the old tankhouse.
