JSC “Uralelektromed” installed 50 % of cells for the Tankhouse, phase III
JSC “Uralelektromed” (an enterprise of UMMC metallurgical division) continues to build the third phase of the Tankhouse. Currently, 112 electrolytic cells have been installed and aligned in the stands. That is the main process equipment for high-quality M00k copper cathodes production by means of electrochemical processes.
Electrolytic cells of Polish origin are made of anti-corrosion high-strength polymeric concrete and can serve for 20-25 years without repair. 62 cathodes and 63 anodes can be placed in one cell. There will be one circulation system consisting of 224 electrolytic cells with the accompanying process equipment (tanks, pumps, heat exchangers) across the third stage of the Tankhouse.
In addition, construction works are under way on closing the heat loop at the site via the installation of wall panels. Covering the roof with waterproof material is 65% completed. Concrete flooring is being done under the cells while foundations are being poured for anode preparation and anode scraping machines.
It is to be recalled that in February 2012, JSC “Uralelektromed” launched the first phase of the new Tankhouse with the design capacity of 160 ktpy. The second phase of the same capacity was launched in May 2018. With the start of the third phase, the design capacity will increase by 80 ktpy.
