Nonferrous Alloys Production Branch enhanced the lead production efficiency

At the Nonferrous Alloys Production Branch of JSC “Uralelektromed” (an enterprise of UMMC metallurgical division), the production indicators of crude lead production were improved by introducing a rationalization proposal. The author of a simple, at first glance, idea, that brought tangible dividends was Nikolai Smirnov, the senior foreman of the crude lead production department. He proposed to increase the volume of the loading hopper by 1.5 times, by means of which several tasks associated with accretion of crude lead production and reducing the time costs were immediately solved.

The author of the innovation says that enlarging the loading hopper from 6 m3 to 9.5 m3 allowed to cut the number of charge loads in the short-drum rotary furnaces and reduce melt cooling. As a result, Metallurgical Plant of the Branch increased the number of melting operations in two days from 16 to 17.

“According to preliminary calculations, for eight months of operation with the new hopper, we have loaded the charge into the furnaces by 4,200 tons more than in the same period last year,” he said.

The implementation of idea was carried out by employees of the Design Department, who developed documentation, and the Repair and Mechanical Department, where the loading hopper was assembled.
